Renal transplant - success is jeoperdiazed by two main obstacles: Rejection on one side and Increased susceptibility to infections on the other side.

Renal transplant recipients receiving immunosuppressive drug combinations are prone to Viral infections including herpes zoster, Hepatitis, Cytomegalovirus and polyoma virus.

Bacterial infections including Gram positive and negative bacteria, and anaerobes cause wound site infections, urinary tract and chest infections.

Aggressive fungal infections like mucormycosis may cause patient mortality if not diagnosed and managed promptly.

Improvements in the prevention and treatment of infections have contributed to the improved outcome of renal transplantation.
